The city of Rhodes is located on the northern part of the island and is the capital of both Rhodes Island and the capital of thel Dodecanese Islands complex. The city is separated in two parts: the Old City and the New City. The Old City was the medieval capital of the island and one of the biggest medieval cities of Europe. 
The atmosphere in the medieval city is unique and transfers you to a season full of mystery. Walking through the narrow paved streets, you will come across the Castle of Knights, the Gates, the Towers, Gothic and Byzantine churches and several beautiful houses of Venetian architecture. The New City is quite modern with squares, big streets and buildings that combine modern and traditional style of architecture in a unique way. Cosmopolitan Rhodes offers a lot of hotels in different categories, restaurants, cafeterias and a big market in which you can buy many souvenirs, as well as expensive luxurious products. The centre of Rhodes is crowded particularly during the summer and offers all kinds of services to the visitor. From the bus station you can take one of the buses that may transfer you the other regions of the island. The port is where boats for Piraeus (the port of Athens) and nearby islands depart frequently. The beach nearest to the centre is Elli, near the casino and the aquarium.
Faliraki is situated in the north-eastern part of the island and is 14 kilometers away from the centre. It is one of the most popular locations, mainly for the younger visitors. The nightlife is vibrant and the entertainment non-stop. You will find many bars, cafes, clubs, hotels and taverns. Faliraki beach is one of the largest beaches but it is separated in a lot of smaller ones. It is the most cosmopolitan part of Rhodes and you will not ever forget it.
LINDOS
Lindos is a small city built on the side of a hill and is located 56 kilometers south of the capital of Rhodes. You can go there easily by bus from the centre or by boat from the Mantraki port. It is a traditional city with narrow streets so cars are not allowed to drive through it. The only means of transport in Lindos are donkeys and motorbikes. You should visit the Acropolis, but it requires a bit of effort in order to climb the hill. However, the unique view to the sea will compensate you. Lindos is well-organized with hotels, taverns, fast foods, super markets and bars. The nearest beach is the "Big Beach", but you can also find a few more sandy or rocky beaches nearby. Lindos is a quiet destination and is the best part for family vacations.
AFANTOU
Afantou village is the number one destination for families and couples that wish to pass their vacations relaxing near the sea. It is one of the biggest villages of Rhodes, 22 kilometers south-east of the capital. The nearby beaches you can visit are Afantou beach and Ladiko beach. The village provides every comfort to the visitors, a big variety of hotels and restaurants, as well as a lot of shops. The city is famous for its unique hand made carpets of high quality. The name of the village refers to the Greek word "afanto" which means invisible, because the village was built far from the sea, in order to be protected from pirate attacks.
MONOLITHOS
Monolithos is located south-west of the capital, on a small hill. The view is breathtaking, specifically if you go up to the castle, which is built on a rock. It is a picturesque location where you can find various lodgings and restaurants.
ARCHANGELOS
This village is located on the eastern part of Rhodes and is quite big. It is the most traditional village in the island that still follows local customs and every kind of tradition. The houses have traditional architecture and decoration, the streets are narrow, the locals bake bread and make ceramic artifacts and carpets, all marriages follow a traditional ceremony and even the inhabitants speak a local dialect. Even for a popular tourist destination, with hotels and a lot of visitors, it maintains its uniqueness and the inhabitants remain very friendly and hospitable. Do not forget to visit the Church of Archangel Michael and the castle of Agios Ioannis, which is located on the hill and just 10 minutes away on foot.
