Milos lodging guide
There are hotels or apartments in almost every village See Milos Map! but in general hotels or apartments in or near Adamas, where the port is found, are closer to the nightlife and most shops of the island.
Adamas (or Adamantas):
Adamas is the main port of the island and the business, social and tourist centre. The village was founded in early 1800s from refuges from Crete.
As it is the biggest natural port of the Mediterranean Sea it has been an important strategic position of the Eastern Mediterranean. In Adamas travellers can find plenty hotels or rooms to let, rent a car/rent a bike shops, restaurants, cafes, bars, many shops and all other comforts they need for a pleasant holiday.
Polonia (or Appolonia):
Pollonia is a small fishing village situated in the northeastern Milos from where there are itineraries to Kimolos and Glaronissia, just opposite Pollonia. The church of the Agia Paraskevi, stands on a small peninsula above the village and is visible from every part of the village. Here visitors can find rooms and apartments to rent, traditional "kafenia" (cafes) and taverns serving tasty fresh fish and other sea food. Pollonia have a wonderful sandy beach where travellers can enjoy the sea and the sun.
Plaka:
Plaka is the capital of the island, characterized by the traditional island architecture. Is is built in a hill and there is a great view from there. In Plaka there is the medieval castle and the church of Panaghia Thalassitra from where you can enjoy the best sunset in Milos. Plaka's development started after the destruction of Ancient Chora, as the increasing number of refugees could not fit within the walls of Kastro. In Plaka travellers may visit the folklore and the archaeological Museum.
Klima:
Klima is considered to be the most picturesque fishing village of Milos. It is really worth-seeing the "syrmata", little fishermen's storehouses, craved into the rocks and painted with bright colours. The sunset there is also beatyful. The village is mainly inhabited by natives and there are no hotels. However travellers may be lucky and find one of these storehouses to rent.
Achivadolimni:
Achivadolimni is located next to the gulf on the western side of Milos Island. Its grey blue sandy beach with blue waters is ideal for swimming. At Achivadolimni, which means lake of sea shells, there is the only camping site of the island as well as rooms and bungalows.
