Hersonissos is located in the prefecture of Heraklion, 25 km far from Heraklion city. See Map! It extends from the north-central coast of Crete till the crests of the mountains in the center of the island next to Lassithi prefecture. We consider Hersonissos as a single town, but the truth is that it consists of several small villages with distinct atmosphere and character. Nowadays Hersonissos is the best organized and most popular tourist destinations in Crete. It offers accommodation of high quality, conference facilities and places of rare natural beauty.

In the north part of Hersonissos and especially in Limin Hersonissou (Hersonissos port) and Analipsi you will find huge and luxurious tourist resorts, offering every kind of facility, as well as mid-range hotels and apartments. This is one of the best places for mass tourism, offering sandy beaches, endless dining option, wild nightlife and many more activities, like various water sports, golf, parapente, scuba diving, mountain bike etc. There are also some very interesting remnants of roman buildings which you can visit in the north part of Hersonissos.

However, if this doesn't seem attractive to you, there is always the other side of Hersonissos, that is its inland. Just a few kilometers southeast of the port you can find many small picturesque villages. The lodging options in the villages are fewer, smaller (medium sized hotels and apartments), less comfortable, but of course cheaper and more hospitable. Here you can have the most relaxing holidays, as the villages are far from anything that might disturb you. The scenery is mountainous, with lush vegetation and places of scarce natural beauty, like gnarled gorges and steep hillsides. Don't forget to stroll up and down the picturesque alleys of the villages, taste original Cretan cuisine at small taverns and cafes with genuine Cretan atmosphere and admire traditional buildings and old, Byzantine churches.
