CHORA (pronounced Hora)

Mykonos was first inhabited in the 5th B.C millenium and with the neighbouring islands of Delos and Renia, they have written a long-lasting important history. mykonos map. For a lot of years Mykonos has been one from the most cosmopolitan destinations in all of Greece and all Europe. However, the island of winds, even when it is over-crowded, has not lost the traditional cycladean style. The centre of island, attracts already the visitors from the first moment. The white houses, with their traditional architecture as well as narrow streets with the white pavements, make the visitors feel that they live in another season. The market of the island is assembled in the town, especially at Matogianni Street, where there are a lot of commercial shops with expensive clothes and jewels and shops that sell souvenirs or hand made artefacts. The streets of the island are full of people all day. The people walk around or sit in cafeterias, tavernas and bars. Chora of Mykonos is connected via bus service with most of the popular beaches of the island. Just outside the centre, on the hil,l you can admire the splendid windmills, which stand there for many years and constitute the trademark of the island. In the busy port there are a lot of shops but also places of amusement. On the western side of the harbour you can see the Paraportiani church that is a small sample of the many churches and monasteries Mykonos has. South of the harbour you may find one of the most graphic region of Mykonos, Little Venice, from where you can enjoy the unique sunset.

ANO MERA

It is the second biggest village after the centre and can be found about 8 kilometres out of Mykonos town (Chora), in the Eastern part of island. The village is very well organised and you can find a great variety of restaurants and hotels offering their services to visitors. Trademark of the region is the Monastery of Virgin Maria, as well as the festival that is organised for the celebration of the big religious feast, on 15 August. Ano Mera is easily accessible, because there are frequently routes, from and to the town. The worth visiting beaches around, are Elia, Klafatis, Kalo Livadi and Agia Anna.

ORNOS

Ornos is located about 3, 5 kilometres from the center, in the south-western part of Mykonos and has a bus station. The Ornos beach is very popular and there are caiques (small boats) that can transport you in other southern beaches of island. In the past few years the region is developed and there have been built villas, rented apartments and hotels.

AGIOS IOANNIS

Agios Ioannis beach is suited in the western part of island in distance of 4, 5 kilometres from the centre and 5 kilometres from the airport. it is one from the well-known resorts in the island, because from this region you have the best view to the island of Delos. It is connected via buses with Mykonos town.

AGIOS STEFANOS, TOURLOS

Agios Stefanos and Tourlos are regions, in the north-western part of island and are 3 and 2 kilometres away from the centre respectively. You can visit the sandy beaches and enjoy sea sports. The lodgings and the restaurants can satisfy every kind of taste and every age and the transportation there is common. The view to the nearbyislands is splendid and the landscape seems unique because due to the collection of picturesque churches all around.

PLATIS GIALOS

It is one of the most famous tourist resorts, in Southern Mykonos. It is found 5 kilometers away from Mykonos Town. There are frequent bus schedules and the possibility of sea transport to the nearby beaches Paradise and Super Paradise. The landscape is splendid and the hill seems to have been raised in order to protect the region from the winds. The beaches are spotless, with clean waters. The place is well-organised with lodgings, restaurants and beach bars.
