The capital and the main port of Lefkas (or Lefkada) are located in the north-eastern coast of the island and are connected to mainland Greece with an artificial bridge. It is a very modern city, which maintains its traditional character. It was destroyed from the earthquakes in 1948 and in 1953, but it was rebuilt, influenced by the Venetian architecture. Nydri, the most popular resort in Lefkas, is found in the Eastern coast of the island, in distance of 16 kilometers from the city. The region is full of world during summer, walking down the narrow streets and visiting the unique sandy beach of the village. Of course do not forget to visit Meganisi, the church of Saint Kyriaki and the waterfalls. Nydri is a very cosmopolitan place and for this, offers everything to the visitors. In the southern coast of Lefkas, in distance of 38 kilometers from the city, you will meet the small, picturesque fish village, Vassiliki. From the port depart boats for the steep beaches, the nearby islands and Kefalonia and Ithaca. Vassiliki beach is the number 1 destination for sea sport lovers, windsurfers and sailors. The pebble beach is splendid and is surrounded by hotels, restaurants and bars.
Agios Nikitas is located in distance of 12 kilometers west of the city. It is a traditional village, with very hospitable residents. There are enough hotels and restaurants for your facility. It is very beautiful, built in a small gulf and surrounded by trees. Agios Nikitas is famous for the fresh fish and for the exotic beaches Kathisma, Agios Nikitas and Mylos. It is the ideal place for family excursions, far from the crowd.
You will find it in distance of 5 kilometers of the city. There is a lovely port in which are many private yachts. From Lygia port depart also boats for the nearby islands. There are some shops, super markets, hotels and restaurants, as well as many beautiful houses with lovely gardens. Worth visiting are the Alykes and the ruins of the Castle of Saint George. You can reach Lygia by private vehicle, or by the KTEL buses, as there is a bus station.
Poros is a village built amphitheatrically on the foot of a hill. It abstains 25 kilometers, southern of the capital. The beach of Mikros Gialos is the most popular and apart from this, you should also visit the church of Analipsi and the Venetian castle.
It is located at the south-eastern coast, 23 kilometers far from the capital and is one of the oldest villages in Lefkas. It was built on the hill in order to be protected from the pirate attacks. The view to the sea is panoramic and breathtaking! You can visit the 13 windmills of the region and some of the churches, as for example the chapel of Virgin Mary in the Gardens.
