Archaeological Museum of Corfu

The beautiful neoclassic building, which houses archeological museum, is located in the centre of Corfu town. The archaeological museum was initially built to house the Gorgon pediment from the west facade of Artemis' temple. However today, the Museum's collection includes an old collection of unknown provenance, excavation findings from the ancient city of Corfu, findings from the Kerkyraean Cassiope and findings from the excavations in the district of Thesprotia. You can admire a lot of findings, vassals, house objects and tools from Archaic, Romaic, Classic, Hellenistic and Prehistoric period.

Byzantine Museum of Corfu (Antivouniotissas)

The Museum is housed in the church of Panagia Antivouniotissa, one of the oldest churches in Corfu Town, dated probably to the 15th century. The church is of a basilica rythm, with wooden ceiling, splendid murals and rare icons. In 1079, it was donated to Greek State in order to become a Museum. After the necessary restorations, nowadays it exhibits a wonderful collection of Byzantine and post Byzantine icons and relics, which represent more than 5 centuries of Byzantine religious art. Some of the most important exhibits are the Icons of Agioi Sergius and Bacchus, the Icon of Panagia Theotokos Odigitria and Agia Ioustina, the Icon of Agios Dimitrios, the Icons of Agios Cyril of Alexandria, and the "Noli me tangere" (touch me not).

Museum Of Asian Art

The Museum of Asian Art of Corfu is the only Asian museum in Greece and is accommodated in the Palace of Saints Michael and George, in Corfu town. It is housed in a building of the British Protectorate which was initially used as the Residence of the Lord High Commisioner and as the headquarters of the Knights of the Order of St. Michael. It was founded in 1972 and is comprised of donations of private collections. The Museum was first a Chinese and Japanese Art Museum but later when it was enriched with objects and items from all over Asia turned into a Museum of Asian Art. It houses ionic and Dorian columns, furniture, portraits and busts of important leaders, findings from Far East, porcelains, buckrams and traditional costumes from various countries of Asia.

The Museum of Dionusios Solomos

The Museum is housed in the house where Dionysius Solomos, the National Greek Poet, who wrote the lyrics of the National Greek Hymn lived a major part of his life. The exhibits include several Solomos' personnal items such as its desk and a small autograph. There is also a rich collection of Solomos' photographs, books and a series of the poet's portraits.

Municipal Gallery of Corfu

The Municipal gallery of Corfu is housed in a renovated building, at Spianada Square, and includes 9 rooms. It houses a rich collection of works of the most famous Corfiot artists from the 19th century such as Pachis, Angelos Giallinas, Spyros Prossalendis, Pavlos Prossalendis, George Samartzis and many others. Apart from the regular exhibitions, the municipal art gallery functions also as a cultural centre and organises lectures, courses for the history of art and concerts.

Nomismatic Museum of Corfu

The Nomismatic Museum of Corfu was founded by the Ionian Bank in 1981 and is accommodated in a renovated building in Corfu town. This is a rare type of museum all over the world and the only in Greece. In its collection are included bank notes that were printed after the release of Greece, bank notes from various countries of world, books, stamps, coins and old documents. There is also a laboratory in order to watch the manufacture process of bank notes and the process of mapping out the drawings on the metal plates.
