Mykonos port

Mykonos is one of the most famous islands in Greece and belongs to the Cyclades complex of islands. You can travel to Mykonos either by plane from Athens or by ferry from the port of Athens, Piraeus. There are daily scheduled ferry itineraries to Mykonos and quite frequent. Nevertheless, the frequency of the ferry routes increases during the summer. You can choose betweeen the conventional type ferries or the highspeed ferries. The conventional ferries take approximately 6 hours to reach Mykonos and may stop at various islands before arriving to Mykonos, whereas the highspeed ferries reach Mykonos in 4 hours and don’t make any stops. Mykonos can also be reached from the port of Rafina by conventional or highspeed ferries and only during the summer from Lavrio, by a conventional ferry.

Mykonos has two main ports: the new and the old port. The old port is located very close to the capital of the island (200m), Chora, and from there you can reach the city on foot in 5 minutes. The new port is located 3km from the old port away and it is advisable to have booked a taxi to come and pick you up, because you won’t be able to find one there waiting for you. Apart from the taxi, you can also use the local bus, which will lead you the old port of Mykonos and as a result to the city. The new port is mainly used by highspeed ferries, whereas the old one by conventional ferries.
