Corfu port
The port of Corfu is the main port of the island and connects Greece with Italy, Albania and other Ionian islands. Corfu town actually has two ports: the old port which is not used by the ferry companies but only by private yachts and sailboats, and the new port that is mainly used from the ferry companies. The new port is just a few meters away from the city center. There is a local bus station from where you can take the bus to the city center. Buses pass by quite often. Moreover, the suburban bus KTEL station is very close to the exit of the port, so you will be able to go on foot and catch a bus to any destination on the island. From the port of Corfu depart ferries to Bari, Brindisi, Venice, Ancona in Italy and to Igoumenitsa, Kefalonia, Paxi, Patras in Greece. Moreover, there are smaller ferries to take to reach Albania. From smaller ports of the island on the southern part, depart ferries to Paxi, Antipaxi and Kefallonia islands.
Tickets to Igoumenitsa are bought at the port whereas tickets to Italy, Patras and Kefalonia can also be bought in advance.
The ferry companies that use the Corfu port are:
- Minoan lines
- Anek lines
- Agoudimos lines
- HML
- Strintzis lines
- Local ferry companies to Igoumenitsa (e.g. Kerkyra lines)
Corfu island can be reached:
By bus
From Athens, you can take the suburban bus KTEL from Kifisos station to Corfu. The bus will transfer you until Patras (approximately 3 hours journey) and from there you will board on the ship, which will take you to Corfu (8 hour journey). The price of the ticket includes both the bus and the ferry ticket fare. Otherwise, you can take the bus from the same station to Igoumenitsa, and from there you can take one of the numerous ferries to Corfu.
By ferry
Either from Patras port or from the Igoumenitsa port, ferries depart to Corfu with a high frequency of scheduled ferry itineraries. There are big ferry companies that have as their final destination a port in Italy (especially if you take the ferry from Patras) and there are also local ferry companies (from the Igoumenitsa port) that depart to Corfu.
