Archaeological Museum Argostoli

The Archaeological Museum in Argostoli was founded in 1957 and hosts a variety of important archaeological and roman exhibits that were found on Kefalonia. Jewellery, pottery, bronze figures, coins and local, traditional works of art are here to be admired.

History and Folklore Museum Kefalonia

This museum is hosted in the same building with the Korgialeneios Library in Argostoli. Paintings, traditional costumes, local artefacts, handmade utensils, wooden figures, jewellery and photos from the everyday life of the people of Kefalonia through the years are here exhibited. The museum covers the folklore tradition of the island from the 15th century till the 20th century.

Natural History Museum of Kefalonia and Ithaka

Natural History Museum is located in Davgata village, 10 kilometres north of Argostoli. The museum functions since 1999 after an initiative of the Nature Protection Company of Kefalonia and Ithaka. You can see maps, rocks, mining objects and photographs from the flora and the fauna of the region, shells, and models from the daily life.

Naval and Environmental museum in Fiskardo

The Naval and Environmental Museum of Fiskardo was built in 1998. Its collections are really impressive. It houses important discoveries from the naval history of the island, photographs and boat models. You can also collect information about the marine organisms, the plankton, the beauties of the region and the sea pollution.

Monatsery and church of Agios Gerasimos

Agios Gerasimos is the holy protector of Kefalonia and the church and the monastery is dedicated to his memory. The church also houses the holy body of Agios Gerasimos. The monastery is located on the top of a hill, in Omalos valley, near the villages Fragata and Valsamata. It is really impressive and many people visit it. Moreover lots of monks visit the monastery in order to devote their life to his memory. There is also the cave of Agios Gerasimos, where he once used to go in order to pray which is near the monastery. His memory is honoured with litanies and traditional feasts on the 16th August and on the 20th of October.

Castle of Agios Georgios

The Venetian castle of Agios Georgios is dated back to the 13th century and is located in Peratata village. It was built to fortify the old city of Kefalonia and it has hosted the Venetian, Turkish and Occidental possession during years. The castle stands imposing in altitude of 300 metres, extending at 16.000 square metres. Its walls are 600 metres long and the view from there is really breathtaking!

Ainos National Park

Ainos is a small mountain for Greece, but it seems like a giant for the island of Kefalonia. The national park is located on the top, called Megas Soros. The fir forest is impressive, even if its size has been decreased, because of the fires. The forest is a paradise on earth for the walkers and climbers. There are rare types of flora, such as wild orchids and species of fauna which are threatened by extinction, such as foxes, reptiles and birds.

Drogarati Cave

Drogarati cave is located near Katapodata village, a few kilometres from Sami village away. It is full of impressive stalactites and stalagmites and the experts estimate that these shapings are over 10.000 years old. The cave is 40 kilometres long and includes a big central area, characterized by excellent acoustics, and that's why it is nowadays used for concerts and other special events.

Melissani Cave

Melissani is situated near Sami and was revealed due to the earthquake of 1953 because a piece from the roof of the cave fell down. The cave has a lake with emerald green and crystal clear waters and magnificent stalactites which you can admire when going around with the small boat. The waters are half salty coming from the sea in Karavomilos area and half are coming from the wells in Katavothres.
