Beaches to visit in Chania
Golden beach is located in Chania and you can go there by foot. The name is owed thanks to the golden sand. The beach offers a lot of activities; is very well organized with sun beds and umbrellas and is an ideal beach for children, because there is a playground. If you do not want to escape from the capital, visit it, it is the best solution!
Kalyves beach is located in the village of the same name, 20 kilometers east of Chania. It is very popular, full of crowd, swimming in the spotless waters. In the village you can find many hotels and restaurants.
The beach of Paleochora is suitable so much for swimming, as much as for sport activities. Thanks to the location, weather conditions are favorable for windsurfing and kite surfing. A really beautiful beach, well organized, that can offer everything to the visitors!
You will find it in the city of Georgioupoli, in distance of 38 kilometers east of Chania. Sandy beach, 7 kilometers long, ideal so much for swimming in the crystal clear waters, as much as for sunbathing on the white sand.
Elafonisi is perhaps the most popular beach in entire Crete and is located in the south-western part. You can reach it either by boat from Paleochora, or by a car, driving from Chania to the south. It is a paradise on earth, characterized by pink and white sand and turquoise waters. It is the most cosmopolitan beach of Chania prefecture and is full of world of each age during summer months.
Falasarna beach is situated in the homonym village and is accessible only by private car. It became famous for the spotless waters and for its authentic beauty. It is not very tourist; it is quiet and idyllic. It is worth visiting, in order to relax in a beautiful landscape and to enjoy the best sunset of Crete!
Gavdos is the most south point of Europe and you will have the chance to enjoy the view to Liviko Sea. The coasts in Gavdos are isolated and not cosmopolitan and you can relax there by sunbathing or swimming in the clean waters.
It is found in distance of 67 kilometers from Chania, between the villages Paleochora and Agia Roymeli. The landscape is green, full of trees and there is a variety of hotels and restaurants that facilitate your stay. Sougia pebble beach is in the list with the cleanest beaches in Greece. There are some smaller beaches for nudism, umbrellas, sun beds and showers.
The beach of Agia Marina is situated near the capital, in distance of 10 kilometers west of Chania. It is a very popular tourist resort and is over-crowded during July and August.
GRAMVOUSSA - MPALOS
You will find Gramvoussa on the tip of western Crete and is an extremely idyllic beach. It is enough popular and easily accessible by car, or by boat. Maybe becomes a little over crowded during high season, however, it is worth visiting for swimming in the spotless waters!
